2020 U9/U10 Future Stars Tour - OVERVIEW

2020 U9/U10 Future Stars Tour

The aim of the Future Stars Tour is to create a competitive opportunity for the more advanced U9/U10 junior tennis player with encouraging participation.  The Future Stars Tour is for:

  • More experienced players who have competed in at least three to five U8/U10 Rogers Rookie Tour Events.
  • Competitors who are looking to enhance their competitive experience and meet the Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) competitive criteria.

The tour will offer a variety of stops across the province allowing players to compete twice a month and accumulate points in a yearly point’s race.  The top competitors in each category will win prizing which will be listed at www.tennisontario.com. Competitors will also receive a Future Stars gift as they play in the circuit throughout the calendar year.

To create a healthy and positive competitive environment, the points race is designed to reward participation as oppose to winning.  Please find more details on the points race below.

In an effort to accomodate increased participation numbers in the Future Stars Circuit, the OTA will be piloting 2 day events. These 2 day tournaments will be specified on the tournament page when registering for the event.

The OTA will not be hosting a year-end Top 5 player banquet at the end of this year's circuit due to COVID-19. Top 5 players in each category will be awarded trophies.

Participation:

Player’s participating in a 2020 Future Stars Tour event will receive 400 points per tournament towards their year end total.

Player's who are in the draw and do not show, for whatever reason, will receive a failure to play point. A player who accumulates 3 failure to play points in a 52 week rolling calendar will be suspended for 3 months.

Round Robin Format:

All Future Star Tour events will be done in a round robin format (changed to Elimination Draw during COVID-19 pandemic).

  1. Each player will receive 100 points per round robin win
  2. In the event of a tie, the 100 points may be split or a one point tie breaker will be played to determine a winner. (this will be left to the discretion of the tournament director)
  3. In the case of a round robin box having a smaller amount of players, an extra 100 is awarded is to all players with in the box. This will ensure that all players are given an equal opportunity to attain the same amount of points when playing in their round robin.

Note: The OTA Code of Conduct regarding rest between matches does not apply to Future Stars events.

Elimination Round:

Players finishing at the top of their Round Robin box qualify to play in a standard single elimination tournament.

In the event of a tie, the tie breaker to determine the group winner is as follows:

1. If two players are tied with the same number of wins, the tie is broken by head to head between the two players.

2. If three players are tied with the same number of wins, the tie breaker is determined as follows:

    a. Head to head

    b. Total sets won and lost (the difference)

    c. Total games won and against (the difference)

1 Win = 100 points

Note: The number of players qualifying for the elimination portion of the tournament is determined by the Tournament director. Draw size may vary in accordance to the court availability.

COVID-19

Elimination Draw:

  1. Players will be placed in elimination draws. Players who lose their first match will be added to the consolation draw. Consolation draws will be played until there is a winner, winner of the consolation draw will recveive an addtional 100 points.
  2. Players receive 400 points for participation, 100 points for each win/bye and 100 points for winning the consolation draw.

Scoring Format:

All matches will be best of three short sets up to 4, no ad, tie breaker up to 5 at 3 all.  In the event of third set, a match tie breaker up to 5 points will be played.

Note: all tie breakers must be won by 2 points.

Points Race

There will be 4 seperate leaderboards (BU10, GU10, BU9, GU9) players can accumulate points in. The leaderboard will be updated 1-2 weeks after the event has taken place.

Note: U9 events are combined gender, however there will be a seperate leaderboard for each the boys and the girls.

**Note: Players will only be permitted to place in the Top 5 of ONE age category

Case Scenarios (Timed Matches which are incomplete)

Note: In the event of a timed match, different situations may occur where the set being played is started but not yet completed.

1) First set not completed: Player leading the set is awarded the set and match

2) Second set not completed: The player leading the set will be credited the set if he or she has reached a minimum of 3 games. If the leading player has not reached the 3 game marker (ie. 2-1), the set is considered incomplete and will not count towards the match. Thus the player who won the first set wins the match

3) Incomplete games: Games not yet finished are considered incomplete once the allocated time has elapsed. The tournament director may allow the players to complete the current game if time allows.

4) Incomplete third set (tie breaker to 5 points): If time has elapsed in the middle of a third set tie breaker, the player leading the tie breaker is awarded the set. If the tie breaker is tied, players can either finish the remainder of the breaker, or play one sudden death point to determine the winner.

Note: This decision is left to the discretion of the tournament director.

Future Stars Parent Info:

At the OTA it is our goal to ensure that tennis parents and coaches are educated on how to support their child and others during tournament play.  Please find some helpful pointers listed below.

  • It is encouraged that all parents clap for good efforts and good points for all kids
  • There should be NO COACHING ALLOWED
  • There should be NO OUTSIDE OFFICIATING ALLOWED.  This includes line calls and scoring.  It’s the player’s responsibility to learn these skills.  If there are any disputes on court it’s the player’s responsibility to call for the tournament director or court monitor.
  • Parents are not to communicate with their kids during a match. Should they need to pass a water bottle or anything else, they must do so through the Tournament director or roving umpire.
  • It is the parent’s responsibility that the child is at the location of the event in plenty of time and all prepared 15 minutes before start time.
  • Clapping on player’s mistakes will not be tolerated.
  • Parents are to find the tournament director desk and ensure payment is made and that the child has signed in for the event.

We appreciate your cooperation and support regarding this matter.  For more information on Fair Play, please access the OTA’s code of conduct at www.tennisontario.com (click “Player Development/Player Information/OTA Code of Conduct).
